I am professor and chairperson of English at St. John’s University in New York City.  I specialize in U.S. Literature and Culture, Gender Studies, Trauma and Vulnerability Studies, and Digital Pedagogy.  I am the author and editor of five books:  Gender and American Literature, co-edited with Jean M. Lutes (Cambridge University Press, 2022); Danger and Vulnerability in Nineteenth-Century American Literature: Crash and Burn (2018); Teaching with Digital Humanities: Tools and Methods for Nineteenth-Century American Literature, co-edited with Jessica DeSpain (2018); Wounded Hearts: Masculinity, Law, and Literature in American Culture (2005);  and Boys Don’t Cry: Rethinking Masculinity and Emotion in the U.S, co-edited with Milette Shamir (2002).
